We love Grace, she's a great friend to High Street Runway. She finished uni last year and has landed her dream job at iconic Brisbane boutique Calexico as Nicky's assistant (Calexico owner). She's been very busy during covid managing the e-commerce website. Surrounded by beautiful things, we asked her a few questions about her fashion and style.
How would you describe your look?
I would describe my look as minimalistic. I stick to block colours and fabrics and usually wear neutral tones and blue denim. I do love a pop of colour and have a couple of block colour pieces that I love to mix into my wardrobe. These include a structured lilac blazer and a deep orange oyster dress, both from Kookai. When dressing up, I am definitely a person who likes to take a day look to night. I usually go for a creamy silk button up with a black bralette underneath and pair this back with unstructured denim and either snake print boots or a delicate heel.
What’s your favourite piece of clothing
A have a couple of favourites but there’s definitely special memories attached to my lilac blazer from Kookai. I wore it to my job interview at Calexico and love to pair it back with a block colour look to make a statement.
Who is your style icon and why?
I like to follow smaller influencers on Instagram who emulate their own personal style and tastes. A few influencers I love are Sarah Ellen (@sarahellen), Isabella Gray (@isabella_gray pictured in High Street Runway), Rozalia Russian (@rozalia_russian), Izi Angus (@iziangus), Therese Hoff Hansen (@theresehoffhansen) and Molly King (@mollyking__). I love these influencers in particular because they all have a focus on fashion and each one presents it in a different way.
What are you coveting ATM?
Working everyday surrounded by beautiful international brands is such a temptation so I definitely have a few things from Calexico on my list. First is the white Agolde ribbed tank which we used on the gorgeous Elise Godschan to shoot our new denim drop. It’s such a staple 90’s piece that is so versatile for day or night.
Another favourite is the Madeworn tees – I love the bright pink and blue print Rolling Stones tee.
A new jewellery brand that just dropped last week is Zoë Chicco. Straight from LA, her pieces are all delicate, 14k yellow gold and perfect for everyday wear. I love the Itty Bitty Cross Necklace that sits really delicately on the collar bones and the Square Oval Link Chain Bracelet which is a nod to the chain link jewellery trend.
What would you like to hire from High Street Runway and where would you wear it?
I can’t wait to get back to Hellenika for long lunches and long nights with my girlfriends. I have a couple of pieces I’m eyeing off to hire from High Street Runway as soon as freedom hits. One is the Barbie Midi Set which I was lucky enough to try on during High Street Runway’s first Iso Shoot. I also love the Bec and Bridge Seraphine Mini Dress and Zimmermann Melody Top paired with jeans, strappy heels and a miniature crossbody bag.
You’ve done some styling with Sarah Elizabeth Turner, what was the highlight?
The fashion world is a crazy one and can be really hard to get into. I was lucky enough to stumble upon Sarah Elizabeth Turner at an event while interning for a PR company and she took me under her wing. We’ve worked together for the past 2 years doing everything from visual merchandising in the Myer Centre, to the Shop Brisbane City runway shows, to campaigns for media personalities and brands. A highlight of working with Sarah would have to be one of the biggest work days I’ve ever done which was managing backstage at one of the Shop Brisbane City campaign runway shows. It ended up being a 15 hour day of quick changes and organisation that I will never forget – all in the middle of Queen Street in the city. We were so exhausted afterwards that we ended up missing the afterparty and took ourselves out for a late-night dinner and drinks instead. Another highlight would have to be our overnight trip to Byron Bay where we shot a book campaign for a health and wellness influencer. Another crazy couple of days but seeing the finished product always makes the intensity of the campaign worth it.
I worked on last year's Spring Racing Carnival and had to source a green outfit. I remembered seeing the perfect green outfit on the High Street Runway App. It was super easy to organise with the owner and we were able to hire it for the day to use at the shoot.
